KuCoin Has Proven Its Reliability Already!

Depicting Binance users migrating to KuCoin after Binance's mandatory KYC policy.

KuCoin is one of the best crypto exchanges in the industry, claiming to be the “People’s Exchange.” The exchange became popular after Binance added the mandatory KYC policy and also after they recovered 84% of customers’ stolen funds within 2 months due to the infamous hack, back in September 2020.

One of the KuCoin mottos, reading "People's Exchange."

KuCoin does not have a mandatory KYC policy; yet probably as they have to comply with the regulations sooner or later. The point is that KuCoin’s “sub-accounts” are available for non-KYCed accounts, which is not available for below VIP1 non-verified accounts on Binance.

So, before jumping in, briefly about sub-accounts.

What Are KuCoin Sub-accounts?

KuCoin Sub-account section showing creating new sub-account.

Sub-accounts are no different than your current exchange account. It’s an exchange account that you create using your master account, which functions the same as the master account but you cannot withdraw funds from it. Hold on, don’t panic!

You can directly deposit into your sub-account but for withdrawals you must transfer the funds to your master account for withdrawals.

So sub-accounts are your exchange accounts without the withdrawal function. With only one KuCoin account you can create up to 100 sub-accounts, straight away after signing up.

Trader Bots + Sub-accounts + Finestel = Magic!

KuCoin sub-accounts, combined with KuCoin trader bots and Finestel – especially Finestel Pro, are capable of building automated crypto asset management systems, providing automated crypto investment management services.

KuCoin Copy Trading Using Finestel & Finestel Pro

Finestel is an engine with currently three platforms running on top of it:

  • Finestel’s crypto copy trading platform via API access; or non-custodial crypto copy trading on Binance, Bybit, and KuCoin.
  • Finestel Pro is a fully customizable white label copy trading platform for professional crypto traders, asset, and portfolio managers. More info at the end of this paper.
  • Finestel Exchange is a crypto exchange (not available for the public) where you can buy or sell crypto also copy traders or get copied.

We’ll mainly break down the first, talking a little bit about the second service, and leave Finestel Exchange until it’s publicly available

KuCoin Copy Trading Through API Connections

Binance and KuCoin copy trading via Finestel.

Crypto copy trading via API is the process of copying orders and portfolios – or trades – from one exchange account and proportionally replicating them into multiple other exchange accounts using read-only & trade-only API access; to be brief.

Finestel currently supports Binance Futures/Spot, Bybit Futures/Spot and KuCoin Spot copy trading only; there will be more popular crypto exchanges available soon. BUT, there will be more crypto exchanges available for Finestel Pro users.

Finestel copy trading has two sides, “trader” and “investor” accounts:

  • Investor Accounts: Investors are exchange accounts that connect to Finestel via trade-only API access. The trade-only API access allows Finestel to place/cancel the copied traders’ replicated orders into the investor exchange account.
  • Trader Accounts: Traders, portfolio or asset manager accounts, in contrast, connect via read-only API access allowing Finestel to read & copy orders from them.

Using Finestel for KuCoin copy trading, you can have the same performance as a professional crypto trader in your KuCoin account/sub-account as an investor (copy trader). Or, share your trading or crypto portfolio management to gain investors and AUM (Assets Under Management), if you’re a trader.

Read-only & Trade-only KuCoin API Configurations for Copy Trading via Finestel

To create an API for connecting your KuCoin account to Finestel you must head over to your KuCoin account (or sub-account) API Management section and hit the green “Create API” button.

On the next page, select a name for the new API and a “Passphrase.” Please note that the passphrase is not your API “Secret” and it’s not retrievable. If you lose it, you’ll have to delete the API and create a new one.

On the next step, trader and investor accounts go their separate ways!

Read-only API for KuCoin Copy Trading as a Trader

KuCoin read-only API configuration for connecting a trader account to Finestel.

The default API configuration on crypto exchanges is read-only, which is the “General” option on KuCoin. Crypto exchanges may use different literature; Binance calls the read-only API “Enable Reading,” for example.

Here’s the tutorial video for KuCoin read-only API configuration:

Trade-only API for KuCoin Copy Trading as an Investor

KuCoin trade-only API configuration for connecting a investor account to Finestel.

By check marking the “Trade” option you will configure a trade-only API connection for connecting an investor KuCoin account.

Warning

Finestel DOES NOT need the “Transfer” access, which is the withdrawal access to your KuCoin account and who or whatever has it, potentially has your funds.

Showing the transfer option on the KuCoin API management page.

Both traders and investors must select “No” in the IP Restriction section. Otherwise, KuCoin might lose connection to your Finestel account.

Showing the IP restriction section on the KuCoin API management page.

Create The API

Everything’s set, hit the “Next” button and KuCoin will ask you to verify your credentials and after the verification a mini window will pop up showing the API credentials. As you can see in the image below, you have the API Key, Secret, and restrictions’ details.

KuCoin API created

Here’s the tutorial video for KuCoin trade-only API configuration:

Important

You must copy and keep the Secret somewhere safe before hitting the “Confirm” button as this is the only time it’s visible. KuCoin shows the API Secret only once and when you create it. In case of losing it, you must delete the API and create a new one.

Now, head over to your Finestel account and hit one of the buttons in the yellow box (the image below) and on the next page select KuCoin and hit the “Connect” button.

Showing the button for connecting a new KuCoin account to Finestel.

Connecting The New KuCoin Account to Finestel

The page in the image below is where you name and define the new KuCoin account function or “Role” (Trader or Investor) for Finestel. As I said, you can connect up to 10 Binance and KuCoin accounts with different roles to Finestel and the name is to distinguish them from each other. So, pick any name you want.

Entering the details of the new exchange account on Finestel.

The only “Exchange Account Type” available for KuCoin copy trading is the Spot. Stay tuned as we may add KuCoin futures copy trading in the not so far future.

Now just paste your KuCoin account’s API Key, Secret Key, and the Passphrase that you created and then hit the “Connect” button, one last time.

By the way, the two guides on the right side of the page can walk you through the process as well.

Public & Private Trader Accounts and How to Copy Traders as an Investor KuCoin Account

Trader accounts are “Private” by default after connecting, which means Finestel will not list them on the “Explore Traders” menu. Private trader accounts are usually used by crypto portfolio managers and traders who want to serve their private community of clients only, using their Finestel profile link.

The "Explore Traders" page.

Upgrading your trader account (completely free) to “Public” will make your trader account visible to all Finestel investors and they can copy your account; you can still use your profile link to gain investors from your private community. Besides, we promote top performing trader accounts on our social media channels and Finestel homepage.

Upgrading a Trader Account to Public

To upgrade your trader account to Public go to the “Accounts & Stats” menu of your dashboard, hit the “Go Public” button. Set your “Performance Fee,” “Base Asset” (BTC or USDT), and “Minimum Investment,” on the pop-up and hit “Next.”

Setting a trader account pricings before upgrading to public

Hit the Public button on the next pop-up, and congrats, your trader account is available for the public to copy; or to invest on. I’ll tell you about the performance fee and minimum investment in the Finestel Wallet heading.

KuCoin Copy Trading as an Investor | AKA Copying a KuCoin Trader Using Finestel

To copy a KuCoin trader, browse the Explore Traders menu and compare traders using the mini cards. Use the “View Trader” button to land on the trader’s profile and learn more about their trading strategy and experience, risk and return level, see their pricing and performance statistics.

Traders' profile details.

These details will help you determine a trader’s performance and trading style suits your financial conditions.

Before copying a trader, let me tell you about Finestel Wallet and pricings.

Finestel Wallet & Pricings (Service Fee, Performance Fee, Minimum Investment)

Finestel wallet is a TRC-20 USDT only (currently; more options in the future) crypto wallet and was built on TRON blockchain. Investor accounts use the wallet to pay the monthly “Service Fee” ($29 or 29 USDT) and the copied trader’s “Performance Fee,” and trader accounts use it to collect the earned performance fees.

Finestel Pricing:

  • Service Fee: the $29 (or 29 USDT) monthly service fee is per copy and investors pay to start the copy trading session via their Finestel wallet.
  • Performance Fee: the copied trader’s performance fee is post-paid. Every 30 days Finestel will realize the investor accounts’ profits, calculate the copied trader’s performance fee and transfer the equal from the investor wallet to the trader’s. If your Finestel wallet balance is lower than the trader’s performance fee Finestel will ask the investor to deposit the difference.
  • Minimum Investment: it’s the minimum Binance or KuCoin account balance value (BTC or USDT) that you must have to copy the trader; no matter what coins or tokens it contains.
A screenshot of Finestel wallet.

Finestel Wallet Sections:

  • Free Balance: is the withdrawable balance and the balance that investors pay the fees with.
  • Unrealized PF (Performance Fee): is the PF that an investor accounts owes a trader account, or a trader account is waiting to receive.
  • Total: is the summary of the two above.

Trader accounts have an extra section in their Finestel wallet called “Income as a Trader,” which has 2 sections, “Unrealized Income” and “Income So Far.” The first one is the PFs that the trader account is waiting to receive, and the second is the summary of all the connected trader accounts’ income.

Hit The Copy Button

After hitting copy on a trader profile a pop-up will ask you to agree that you will not trade on the account that you’re copying a trader with. Because if you do “order miss-matching” will be highly probable. That’s why you can copy only one trader per exchange account, per market type:

You can copy one trader on the spot market and the same or a different trader on the futures and just like that you can trade on your KuCoin futures account – not recommended, though – while copying a trader with your KuCoin spot account.

The payment pop-up before the copy trading session begins.

Next, Finestel will ask you to pay the $29 monthly service fee which is per copy. So, you must have at least 29 USDT in your Finestel wallet to copy a trader. Now if your balance is enough, just hit the “Start Copying” button.

Proportional Portfolio Synchronization & Order Replication

Binance spot and KuCoin copy trading start with a 60-second syncing countdown. Finestel begins with finding the cheapest way – paying the least trading fee possible – for replicating the copied trader’s portfolio into your KuCoin Trading account proportionally.

A screenshot of the 60-second portfolio syncing process in KuCoin Copy Trading via Finestel

Important Note: remember to keep or transfer your copy trading dedicated assets in your KuCoin Trading account.

After the 60-second syncing process, you will have the same KuCoin spot portfolio as the copied traders alongside their spot open orders. However, the “amount” of the placed open orders or coins and tokens in your new portfolio depends on the ratio of your account balance to the copied trader’s.

Depicting proportional portfolio replication with finestel copy trading

As a simplified example:

If you’re trading with a $10,000 worth of KuCoin spot account balance and I copy you with a $1,000 worth of balance, once you place a $1000 worth of BTC buy order set (SL, TP…), I’ll receive the same exact order set but for $100.
